Martin Keegan: Free Software Wars

Free Software Wars

Had dinner with Mr Lucas-Smith on Thursday; hadn't seen him in a while. A lot of curry (Maharajah) and a lot of discussion of PHP and free software. I went through the standard Zeusist and Unixist arguments against PHP (mod_php bad, PHP makes it way too easy to be insecure).

Also talked a bit about free software, and this has continued by email. MVL is pushing OpenOffice. My position has been that, due to network externalities, it's a waste of time not using MS Word, as MS will just change the file formats to keep slowing down the opposition.
